SURF is over now, but I enjoyed my research quite a bit and hope to continue with it during the upcoming school year. I had an experience doing serious research, and I liked it. I also learned some rather interesting things from my housemates. Sometime during the next week I will post some things from our quote board. Well time to enjoy my summer (well the 2 weeks that are left of it).
Bye for now.

Currently I am looking for some video clips for my powerpoint. It's hard to create a powerpoint for this project because I am writing about written works. So this will be interesting. Also, I produced a first draft of my paper and am working on a revised copy. My advisors seem to like where my paper is going, which is always a good thing. Well, better get back to work.
Bye!

Sometimes when doing research you realize that you no longer agree with your original thesis. And to suggest your new thesis involves the deconstruction of your previous one. That's kind of where I've found myself, and it's wonderful. I have been doing research, and trying to find supporting evidence for my original research, for weeks. And it was only through this research process that I discovered my new research path, and it is much more interesting than my previous one. I look forward to presenting my final results.
Bye for now.

It's the end of week one, and it's been kind of stressful. First of all, I was not happy to find out that not only has someone written about what caused Nero to suppress Lucan's works, but that I probably will not be able to get a hold of her dissertation unless I go to John Hopkins University and read it. I guess I should just be happy with the fact that her thesis is not the same as mine. Also, I've finished three books on Nero, and I have come to the conclusion that he is not the insane, madman I once believed him to be (and that some of the scholars I have read claim him to be). Well, I guess I better go start reading the book on Lucan I just checked out from the library.
Have a nice weekend!

Hello Everyone!
I am really excited. I begin my SURF project in less than a week. For my project, I will be examining Lucan's Pharsalia, and I will write a paper arguing that Nero silenced Lucan not only because the Pharsalia degrades Nero's ancestors but also because Nero was jealous of Lucan's poetical skills. I am ready to get busy... meaning sit in a library and read anything and everything that might at all be instrumental in supporting my argument. I've already started Miriam Griffin's book Nero: the End of a Dynasty and have ordered a copy of The Fragmentary Poets. I hope that by the end of the summer I will be able to write a persuasive paper supporting my theory. We'll see.
Bye for now!
