Well first off, I hope everyone had a FANTASTIC holiday season. I cannot believe that it is already 2007! During break I have continued to work at ASTM, helping with the new inventory system. Nevertheless, my break consists of 5:45 wake up calls.
With winter break winding down, it’s time for us RMC students to jump into our favorite time of the year- J-TERM, which most of us refer to as PLAY TERM! This is a unique one month long experience where students participate in one or two classes which meet on average for two hours every day. J-term tends to be more relaxed, so students always seem to enjoy the short one month term.
J-term provides study abroad and internship opportunities. This year there are 16 trips going to EVERY CONTINENT except Antarctica. Additionally, many upperclassmen students participate in internships in the Richmond area, up and down the east coast, and even some overseas. These experiences are beneficial because students get to have fun going abroad and learning in different ways; however, it is a shorter time period so they don’t feel like they are missing out on life at RMC.
All of us bloggers are venturing somewhere this January. Luke and I are off to Brazil to help with a youth camp in the coastal town of Vitoría and Amy is off to Egypt. I can’t wait for the 90 degree weather and the beautiful city of Rio. All of us will share our experiences from what we are anticipating to be awesome trips on the J-term diaries page:

Check them out throughout January!

Well it’s the last week of the semester. Wow things have gone by fast! I am very glad to be winding down on this crazy semester. I have been lucky enough to have been blessed with some time this week to relax before crazy finals week comes around. And…knock on wood…there are no signs of illness yet, so hopefully I will actually get to go through one finals week without being sick. There is nothing worse than having to study for finals when you are sick.
Finals week is a bittersweet time. On one side, going through studying for finals is the most draining time of the semester, but on the other side, the end is in sight, and although I have enjoyed my classes this semester, I am ready to move to next semester. In addition, with the end of the semester brings the excitement of entering into J-term. And that means BRAZIL. My class will be spending around two weeks in the South American Country learning about the culture and helping at a United Methodist Summer camp for orphans. I am looking forward to the fact that it is going to be SUMMER in Brazil, and since it has become freezing in good old Ashland, warm weather is very appealing. Additionally, I am looking forward to the experience that we will have in Brazil. I am excited to work with the little kids and help to finish the camp. It will be interesting with the language barrier, but I am looking very forward to the experience.
Well…my small amount of blogging time for the day has come and gone. Back to work before I go to night class!

Hello everyone!
Well life has pretty much been the same most of the semester. I am finding that my junior year has been the most demanding; however, I still love all of my classes. It is amazing how fast fall semester goes by.
The next few weekends are going to be crazy around here. Homecoming is this weekend, and then the Hampden-Sydney week is in a few more weekends. I’m trying hard to get ahead so I can really enjoy myself! In addition, Halloween is on Tuesday and we are all getting excited to dress up. A few friends and I are planning on having the best costume ever…(details to come!)
And now a little more about Homecoming…it has been quite the week around campus. The inauguration of our new president is tomorrow afternoon and physical plant has been busier then ever setting everything up and making the school extra pretty. Homecoming is a wonderful time for all of us at RMC. Many of the alumni come back and it is always nice seeing our friends that have already graduated. The day of the game is always a blast! There is a tailgate before the game and then a band will be playing after the game. Our Yellow Jackets are playing Guilford College and hopefully they will bring home a victory!
Well I must run….life never stops around here!

Wow! It has been a long time since I have last checked in. The beginning of school has proven to be fun and stressful. This semester is probably going to be the most difficult one that I will have. My favorite class, accounting, is very demanding. We have already reviewed the entire first semester (journal entries, preparing financial statements, making adjusting and closing entries) and last week we had the opportunity to play Monopoly to refresh our skills. It was the first major assignment of the class. We played what was referred to as 2 years (24 months) and recorded what we did as if we were running a business. It was a fun and unusual way to reinforce what we learned in principles of accounting.
In addition to accounting, I am taking auditing. It has been very interesting to learn about a type of accounting that one day I could choose to work in. It is also a good course to take because a whole section of auditing in on the CPA exam.
My third class intermediate economics. Economics and I don’t like each other all of the time; however, I have understood the concepts thus far which is a very good thing!
Finally, my non-major class is environmental studies. It meets at night and much of the class is spent in a non-lecture format which is always good! I have found that even in an area such as science that does not interest me as much I am finding ways to fulfill the requirements and enjoy the class!
Hopefully things will eventually settle down a little bit. Work has consumed much more of my time than in the previous semesters; however, I still am finding time to relax and have fun with my friends! I am very excited to see how the next year unfolds!

We're here! Today is move in for all upperclassmen and it is so nice to see the campus alive again! My roommate and I both moved in on Thursday for training, so our room is fully decorated (and quite cute!). The crazy Ernesto came through on Friday, leaving most of the campus without electricity for a full day. It was an interesting exprience to say the least. There were quite a few trees down around campus, but we all survived and had some creative fun while there were no lights!
Classes start tomorrow and soon I will be wishing that summer was still here! But I love seeing everyone and being back on campus! Have a wonderful Labor day everyone, all of us at RMC be sitting in class while everyone else has their last summer hoorah.
