Welcome back everyone....I haven't posted in a while since things around here have been so busy. Last week I was in Baltimore for two days at an American Criminal Justice Association Conference to present some research I've been doing on prison gangs in Virginia. I've also been gone a lot visiting law schools. I absolutely loved William and Mary when I visited there, and I had practically decided that's where I'm going until I visited Washington and Lee last week and liked it too. To make things even more confusing, I have been talking to a lot of people from University of Richmond (students, alumni, professors), and have heard a lot of great things that I'd like there, too. I'm going Wednesday morning to sit in a criminal law class and take a tour. Then over spring break I spend one weekend at W&L and one at W&M for their respective prospective students weekends. After that it will be the deadline to decide, so wish me luck! This week around campus is Dance Marathon week. Every night there is some activity to celebrate Dance Marathon, and then the week will culminate on Saturday with the actual Marathon. Every year it's a lot of fun, so if you're in the area, come check it out! I will not be able to go, however, because I have to work at the Scholarship Day we have on Saturday in Admissions, then Saturday night my dad is being inaugurated as the President of the Virginia State Police Association, and I'm going to Williamsburg for the dinner and dance for that. I can't wait! And as if that isn't exciting enough, March Madness has finally gotten here which means from Thursday at noon to Sunday at midnight, I will be glued to the television (I find March Madness a good enough excuse to skip class....I mean it only happens once a year!). So Go Tarheels! Have a great week!

Welcome back! Second semester got off to a busy start last week. A bunch of us came back last Saturday to attend a charity ball in Richmond and to be here for the Super Bowl on Sunday. It was a good weekend, although I was cheering for the Seahawks :( Monday classes started back up as did formal sorority recruitment week. Even though I have a great class schedule (class every day from 2:10 to 3:40 then Tuesday nights also), I feel like I have less time. My classes are all pretty good. I'm taking a class on the U.S. Congress in which we get to essentially become or imitate a member of the House and form committees, etc. So the class will pretty much be a mock Congress. I'm also taking an Honors history class called the Ascent of Man and a class on international terrorism which is the professor's (Dr. Badey's) specialty. They all should be pretty interesting. Sorority recruitment week went very well and culminated in bid turn in last night. We (Delta Zeta) got some great new girls! The whole week was fun, but somewhat bittersweet as it is the last one for those of us who are seniors. It's hard to believe it has been four years since we went through it. It's hard to start realizing that these are the last times we'll be doing a lot of this stuff. Anyway, I'll stop the sad senior rambling and just say enjoy your college years because they fly by. This week should be just as busy with meetings and catching up on work from last week, but it should be a good one! I'll let you know more about it later! Have a great Valentine's Day!

Well, here we are with just three days left in Jterm. I'll be sad to see it go, but part of me will actually be glad to be busy again. I find I get a lot more done when I'm busy. Although my Jterm routine of working in admissions, working out at the Brock, and doing research has been nice, it has definitely not been very exciting. Lets see, what has been going on' On Saturday we had a Scholarship Program in Admissions that I worked at...if any of you were here for that, thanks for coming. Our newly renovated gym was also dedicated on Saturday, so a lot of alumni were around for that. We also had our Martin Luther King Day celebration last Monday, and then I went to Longwood on Thursday to see Morris Dees, a pretty famous civil rights lawyer, speak at their MLK celebration. Everyone that has been abroad is getting back now, so the campus is filling back up, thank God. This had been a pretty laid back Jterm compared to the past ones, I think everyone just wore themselves out first semester. Well, this spring should be pretty eventful. I have under four months left until graduation, and I'm not sure how I feel about that....sometimes excited and sometimes sad. Our new college president, Lindgren, will also be here starting on February 1, so I expect the spring will be full of change. Alright, well I guess I will write again after Jterm break and when second semester has gotten underway....Until then, good luck with everything!

We're half way through J-term now. It has flown by. I am pretty much just reading and taking notes still for my research, but the rest of my life is pretty busy. I went to the Virginia Tech-UNC basketball game Tuesday night, which was really close and really good game, although UNC had me worried for a while. On campus, my sorority, along with the others, is getting ready and practicing for recruitment, which will take place the first week we're back in February. Let's see, what's going on around campus' A lot of the classes that are going abroad have left or will leave by the end of this week. And the guys basketball team won all three of their games this week (including killing Hampden Sydney last night!). Other than that, not too much has happened this week. I will post again when there is more news....have a good weekend!

So we're back from the holidays and have started January term (otherwise known as J-term). J-term is a really relaxed time around here because a lot of people leave to go abroad with classes, many others are all over the place doing internships, and the ones here only have one class a day. This January, I am doing independent research on prison gangs. It's a continuation of what I did last summer in R-MC's SURF program. So I am on my own schedule which is nice, and I get to really reseach something that is of interest to me. I've actually only had a normal class one J-term since I've been here. That was my freshman year. My sophomore year I did an internship with the Henrico Police Department and rode with them for a month. Last year I went to Italy and London with the Classics Department. Both were experiences I will never forget. Other than getting used to being back, nothing much is new. I've been accepted to four law schools so far (William and Mary, Richmond, UNC, and W&L), which takes the pressure off. Around campus, not a whole lot is new. Everyone that is here for January is taking advantage of the extra time they have and relaxing and having fun before we get back to regular class schedules in the spring and get busy again. We're also really getting into the heart of basketball season, too. The guys team has two home games this weekend, so if you're from around the area come out and see them. They also play their first game of the year against Hampden-Sydney next Wednesday night. That's a big rivalry, and always a really good game. Alright, well I've got to get back to work, but I hope you had a good holiday!
