I've been saving the best for last. Typically, I wouldn't procrastinate and leave my first blog post for 2 hours before I depart for the airport, but this hasn't been a very typical week. It's actually been very busy, full of class, lectures, presentations, and a birthday party in Portuguese.
Class met from 10-4 everyday this week, which actually feels even longer than it sounds. We learned a lot about Brazil, its culture, and its relationship with the church. All of it was interesting, and we covered some things that should be pretty valuable to know while in the country. There's lots of differences between our cultures to remember. We can never touch our food with our hands, and we have to keep our forks in our left hands at all times. "Thank you" actually is a refusal, it means "No." My mom is already certain I'll be making some social faux pas at the dinner table.
Last night was a packing extravaganza. This is my first time going on a trip like this. The only time I've ever been out of the country was a couple of days in Canada, so this is going to be quite an experience. I pack about as well as I do math, and the only C I've ever gotten was in math. Needless to say, getting my things into my suitcases was an adventure. I think I've got everything good and ready though. I've already triple and quadruple checked to make sure I have everything, and there's still two hours to 8-ruple and 9-iple check my room (told you I'm not very good with math).
Well all my backs are packed, and I'm ready to go. Time to stand outside my door until our bus comes to take us to the airport. Next time I type, I'll be 3 hours ahead of you (unless you live in Rio De Janeiro, in which case we should hang out). Take care, thank you for reading.
(And by "Thank you for reading", I mean thank you, not "No for reading." This is a pro-literacy blog.)
