ARTH 222: Baroque and Roll
In this art history course, students will wake up every morning in Rome, facing the spectacular Baroque church of San Agnes in Piazza Navona and the exuberant fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini. In Paris, they will live in a 17th century structure, while savoring the diversity of the Marais district, and lastly in Antwerp and Amsterdam, they will walk the streets that Rembrandt and Rubens crossed, and ponder the significance of their middle class patrons. Most importantly, they will come to understand the meaningful and integral relations of the artistic productions of the 17th century in their proper historical, economic and cultural context.
