Jazz History: “New York, NY”
This J-Term travel class parallels the International Association of Jazz Education Conference being held in New York the second weekend of January. The main goal of the course is to help students gain appreciation for the city of New York’s contribution to the maturity of America’s classical music: jazz. In class, students will study the “Great Day In Harlem” photograph by Art Kane, the Harlem Renaissance, as well as the impact of immigration on the music scene. Students also will have the opportunity to meet and interview several jazz musicians and promoters in New York.
