Akwaaba folks,
I don't even know where to start. It is my fourth day
here in Ghana and I have loved every bit of it. The weather here is beautiful
and always sunny. The people are friendly and always willing to talk to a
person from another country. I will tell you about today's journey. Our camp
headed towards Cape Coast the former capitol of Ghana. Here the people of Ghana
have a very huge fishing village. The ocean view from here is just amazing.
The sun and the moon here shine like gold. Our camp visited cape coast castle
and elimina castle. Elimina was built by the Portuguese and cape coast by the
British. I cannot describe the fillings I felt going into the slave dungeons at
the castle. It was like the horror that my ancestors went through was revisited
through me. It was a very emotional trip. We took a big tour bus to the castle
but if you go to Ghana you should rid tro-tros. These are the local buses.
They are much better because they allow you to inter act with the people on the
street as opposed to sitting up high on a tour bus from a distant. While at
cape coast my friend Joshua paid me a visit. Joshua is a friend that I made
while in cape coast. He is 17 years old. His job is to fish for kochn shells.
I first met him getting off of the bus in cape coast. He came right up to me
and introduced himself. Me and Joshua carried on a conversation and he asked me
to be his friend. He then pulled me aside and told me he wanted to give me a
gift. He gave me a shell he caught earlier that day. I in returned gave him a
shirt I had and a pair of sun glasses. He told me that we are brothers and that
long ago the Europeans caused us to separate. He said that he love me and we
are the same in spirit and blood. I told him I love him and that I would try to
stay in contact with him. The food here is great and I really love this place.
I fill like I have returned home to my ancestors. Until next blog medah
say.
Me dah say (thank you)
Akwaaba (welcome or hello)
