J-term In Brazil
Courses: BLST 381.01/HIST 381.01The Diasporic Connections of the Atlantic System: Brazil and West Africa
SOCI 383.01 Globalization, the Environment and Sustainable Development in Brazil
Students will attend lectures by Brazilian professors at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Federal University of Bahia, ascend the magnificent Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain) in Guanabara Bay and take a tour of the Rocinha favela, Rio’s largest slum. Students will also participate in several service learning projects. They will distribute clothing and school supplies at the Steve Biko Institute and teach English to students at the Eugenia Anna dos Santos elementary school, both located in Salvador.
