Today we had the day to conduct data analysis. The field season is rapidly coming to an end and now what is left is to compile our data and run analysis. The bird songs that I listened to and separated out which files have good songs, are now going to be cut apart into individual songs for specific male Prothontary warblers. I use a program called Syrinx to see the sound waves of the songs and to pick out good looking songs for analysis. I cut apart about 10 song files and found 10 individual songs for the male that corresponded with each of the files. After the individual songs are cut out I will run analysis on the songs to determine pitch, tone, etc. These characteristics are then going to be used to correlate fitness and male reproductive success to determine how song plays a role in female selection of fit males.
